The best crypto exchanges in Indonesia

Bitget is our top pick for people in Indonesia who want a large coin list plus copy trading and a demo account to learn on, although its withdrawals are paused while it investigates a September 2026 wallet breach. Buying and trading crypto is legal in Indonesia, and local exchanges must be licensed by OJK as digital financial asset traders.

Before you sign up anywhere, check how you will move rupiah in and out. In Indonesia you usually pay in rupiah by bank transfer, including Bank Indonesia’s 24/7 BI-FAST system, or from an e-money wallet. Many global exchanges rely on cards, P2P markets or foreign payment systems instead. After that, compare trading fees, the coins and products you can trade, and how each exchange has handled security problems.

1. Bitget

The widest set of learning tools sits on Bitget: copy trading, trading bots and a demo account with virtual funds, alongside 507 spot coins and 478 coins with futures at up to 125x leverage. For a newer trader in Indonesia, this means you can practise or mirror experienced traders before you put real rupiah at stake.

You can deposit by card, bank transfer, Google Pay or Apple Pay. Bitget also runs a P2P market where users swap crypto and local money directly through local payment methods. Withdrawals only go to crypto, SEPA or Pix, so to get rupiah back into an Indonesian bank you have to sell through P2P.

Spot trades cost 0.1% for makers and takers, futures cost 0.02% for limit orders and 0.06% for market orders, and ID verification is mandatory. Bitget launched in 2018, is based in Singapore, was co-founded by Sandra Lou and is run by CEO Gracy Chen. The main risk is happening now: after unauthorized transfers of about $351.6 million from some hot and warm wallets in September 2026, withdrawals are suspended during the investigation, so money you deposit now may be stuck until they resume, even though Bitget says cold wallets and user balances are secure and its User Protection Fund covers the loss.

Key points

  • Bitget combines 507 spot coins with copy trading, trading bots and a demo account for practice.
  • Spot trades cost 0.1% for makers and takers, and you can fund by card, bank transfer or P2P.
  • Withdrawals are suspended after the September 2026 wallet breach, so deposited funds can't leave the exchange until they reopen.

What we like

  • 507 coins on spot
  • Copy trading, trading bots and demo trading
  • Futures from 0.02% for makers
  • peer-to-peer market with local payment methods
  • Publishes proof of reserves

What holds it back

  • Withdrawals suspended after a wallet breach
  • No bank withdrawals to Indonesia, so you cash out through peer-to-peer
  • Futures screen can feel complex for beginners
  • ID verification required

2. Binance

Binance8.9/10Read reviewVisit

Depth of choice is the reason to open a Binance account: 507 coins on spot, 525 with futures at up to 150x leverage, and options on 8 coins. It also has some of the deepest liquidity in crypto, so larger orders fill without moving the price much.

You can fund your account by bank transfer, card or Google Pay, or buy directly from other users on its P2P market. Withdrawals go out as crypto, bank transfer, SEPA or Zen. The interface is built for experienced traders and can slow down in fast markets, so beginners should expect a learning curve and occasional lag when prices jump.

Binance charges 0.1% on every spot trade, limit or market, while futures run 0.02% with a limit order and 0.05% at market price, and you must verify your ID for every operation. Co-founded by Changpeng Zhao in 2017, Binance is based in the Cayman Islands and led by CEO Richard Teng. Its main blemish is an October 2022 hack in which BNB coins worth over $500 million flowed out. Even the biggest exchange is a target, so don't leave more on it than you are actively trading.

Key points

  • Binance offers 507 spot coins, 525 futures coins and crypto options.
  • Spot trades cost 0.1% for makers and takers, and you can fund by bank transfer, card or P2P.
  • The interface is complex for beginners and can slow down when markets move fast.

What we like

  • Very deep liquidity
  • Futures from 0.02% for makers
  • Options, copy trading and trading bots
  • peer-to-peer market for buying from other users
  • Publishes proof of reserves

What holds it back

  • Not very beginner-friendly
  • Can slow down in volatile markets
  • Past hack drained BNB from the exchange
  • ID verification required

3. Bybit

Futures are where Bybit is strongest: 577 coins with futures, up to 100x leverage, and fees of 0.02% on limit orders versus 0.055% on market orders. It also offers options on 8 coins, 548 stock tokens, and forex, index and commodity contracts, so you can reach many markets from one account.

Deposits work by bank transfer, card, Google Pay, Apple Pay and payment providers such as Banxa and MoonPay. Bybit also runs a large P2P market with 0% fees for USDT, USDC, BTC and ETH. Withdrawals go to crypto, bank transfer, SEPA, Zen or Pix, and the interface is easy enough for beginners to find their way around.

Every spot trade carries a flat 0.1% fee whichever order type you use, and ID verification is required. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Dubai, Bybit is run by CEO Ben Zhou, one of its co-founders. In February 2025 it was hacked for over $1.5 billion and recovered all users' funds within 72 hours. That shows it could absorb a huge loss, but it also shows it is a prime target, so move long-term holdings to your own wallet.

Key points

  • Bybit covers 577 futures coins plus options, stock tokens and forex contracts.
  • Spot trades cost 0.1% for makers and takers, and its P2P market charges nothing on the main coins.
  • A February 2025 hack of over $1.5 billion was covered in full, but it shows how big a target the exchange is.

What we like

  • Futures from 0.02% for makers
  • Options, stock tokens and forex in one account
  • Fee-free peer-to-peer market
  • Beginner-friendly interface
  • Copy trading, bots and demo trading

What holds it back

  • Hit by one of crypto's largest hacks
  • ID verification required
  • High leverage is easy to misuse

4. OKX

OKX pairs a big derivatives market with tools for hands-on traders: 485 futures coins, up to 125x leverage, options on 4 coins, and copy trading that mirrors other users' spot and futures trades. A demo mode lets you test ideas first, which helps because the platform is complex for beginners.

You can deposit by bank transfer, card, Zen or P2P, and cash out through a broad list that includes bank transfer, P2P, card and PayPal. Its P2P market uses local payment options with escrow, which holds the coins until both sides have paid. That makes it a practical route between rupiah and crypto.

OKX takes 0.2% on spot limit orders and 0.35% on market buys, so regular spot buying costs more than on most rivals here. OKX futures are priced at 0.02% when you add liquidity and 0.05% when you take it, and KYC is mandatory. OKX dates from 2017, has its headquarters in Seychelles, and its CEO, Star Xu, is one of the people who co-founded it. The central exchange has never been directly hacked, but its DEX lost $2.7 million in a 2023 exploit through a compromised admin key, so treat its on-chain products as carrying their own risk.

Key points

  • OKX offers 485 futures coins, crypto options, copy trading and a demo mode.
  • Spot fees of 0.2% for makers and 0.35% for takers are higher than most rivals here.
  • Its P2P market uses escrow and local payment options, and it offers a wide range of withdrawal methods.

What we like

  • Futures from 0.02% for makers
  • Options and copy trading
  • peer-to-peer market with escrow
  • Wide choice of withdrawal methods
  • Publishes proof of reserves

What holds it back

  • Expensive spot trading
  • Complex for beginners
  • DEX was exploited in the past
  • KYC is mandatory

5. MEXC

If you hunt for new tokens, MEXC lists more than any other exchange here: 1,320 spot coins and 614 futures coins, with leverage up to 200x. Trending tokens often appear here early, but a good share of the catalogue trades thinly, so check the order book before you put money into a small coin.

Deposits run by card, bank transfer, PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay and providers such as Banxa, Mercuryo, MoonPay and Alchemy Pay, and there is a P2P market too. Withdrawals go to crypto, bank transfer, SEPA or Pix. Copy trading, grid bots and a futures demo round out the tools.

On MEXC, a spot order that waits on the book pays 0% and one that fills straight away pays 0.05%, futures come to 0% and 0.02% on the same basis, and every account must pass KYC. Set up in 2018, MEXC operates from Singapore under John Chen, a co-founder who also holds the CEO role. The big catch is its reputation, with many reported cases of withheld customer funds, so your money could be frozen and hard to recover. Keep only small balances here.

Key points

  • MEXC lists 1,320 spot coins, the largest selection here, though many trade thinly.
  • Its fees are the lowest here, at 0% for spot makers and 0% for futures makers.
  • Many customers have reported withheld funds, so large balances are at real risk of being frozen.

What we like

  • Largest coin selection here
  • Spot makers pay 0%
  • Futures from 0% for makers
  • Many card and payment-provider options
  • Publishes proof of reserves

What holds it back

  • Reported cases of withheld customer funds
  • Poor reputation in the industry
  • Many listed coins trade thinly
  • Fee schedule changes often

6. Kraken

Kraken's appeal is trust. It publishes proof of reserves and keeps coins in cold storage. Its one recorded incident, a 2024 bug that a security firm used to withdraw $3 million from Kraken's treasury, ended with the money returned in full and no customer assets affected. You get 679 spot coins, 177 futures coins at up to 50x leverage, and staking for passive income.

Deposits go by bank transfer, card, PayPal, Google Pay or Apple Pay, and you can withdraw to a bank account, card or PayPal. There is no P2P market, copy trading or bot trading. That gives you no way to swap rupiah directly with other users and fewer hands-off tools than most exchanges here offer.

On Kraken futures you pay 0.02% on orders that rest on the book and 0.05% on orders that fill instantly, and ID verification is required. Kraken opened in 2011 with its base in San Francisco, USA; Jesse Powell is among its co-founders, and David Ripley now leads it as CEO. The catch is spot pricing of 0.4% for makers and 0.8% for takers, among the highest here, so buying coins regularly costs noticeably more than elsewhere.

Key points

  • Kraken has a clean security record, with no customer assets lost and published proof of reserves.
  • It offers 679 spot coins, futures and staking, but no P2P market or copy trading.
  • Spot fees of 0.4% for makers and 0.8% for takers make frequent buying expensive.

What we like

  • No customer assets ever lost to a hack
  • Beginner-friendly interface
  • 679 coins on spot
  • Staking for passive income
  • Customer support around the clock

What holds it back

  • High spot trading fees
  • No peer-to-peer market
  • No copy trading or bots
  • ID verification required

7. Coinbase

Coinbase7.7/10Read reviewVisit

For a first crypto purchase, Coinbase offers the simplest app here, with 402 spot coins and staking on supported coins. Futures reach only 10x leverage on 131 coins, and there is no copy trading, bot trading or demo account, so it suits buying and holding more than active trading.

Deposits go by card, PayPal, SEPA or crypto, and withdrawals by bank transfer, SEPA, ACH or SWIFT. There is no P2P market, so card and PayPal are the practical ways to fund an account from Indonesia. Over 6,000 customer accounts were compromised in 2021, so switch on two-factor authentication, which Coinbase offers.

Coinbase futures carry a single rate of 0.05% for every order type, and you must verify your ID before the account works fully. Coinbase has been around since 2012, works remotely with no fixed headquarters, and is still led by co-founder Brian Armstrong as CEO. The main drawback is cost: Coinbase charges 0.4% to makers and 0.6% to takers on spot, so small regular purchases lose more to fees than on most exchanges here.

Key points

  • Coinbase is the easiest app here for a first purchase, with 402 spot coins.
  • Spot fees of 0.4% for makers and 0.6% for takers are among the highest here.
  • There is no P2P market, so you fund mainly by card or PayPal.

What we like

  • Very simple for beginners
  • Futures at 0.05% for makers and takers
  • Staking on supported coins
  • Cold storage and published proof of reserves

What holds it back

  • High spot trading fees
  • No peer-to-peer market, copy trading or bots
  • Customer accounts compromised in a past attack
  • ID verification required

8. Bit2Me

Bit2Me6.1/10Visit

Bit2Me keeps things narrow: spot trading only, across 192 coins, with no futures, copy trading or bots. That suits someone who just wants to buy and hold, but active traders will run out of products quickly.

It offers a debit card for spending crypto and keeps coins in cold storage, offline and away from online attacks. It also has its own token, B2M.

Identity verification is required before you can trade. Bit2Me began in 2014 and calls Elche, Spain home; Leif Ferreira and Andrei Manuel co-founded it, and co-CEOs Leif Ferreira and Koh Onozawa Martinez run it today. It doesn't publish proof of reserves, so you can't check that customer deposits are fully backed.

Key points

  • Bit2Me offers spot trading only, on 192 coins.
  • It has a crypto debit card and keeps coins in cold storage.
  • Without proof of reserves, you can't verify that customer deposits are fully backed.

What we like

  • Simple spot-only platform
  • Crypto debit card
  • Cold storage for coins

What holds it back

  • No proof of reserves
  • No futures, copy trading or bots
  • Smaller coin range than rivals

How we ranked these exchanges

Our editorial team selected, tested and ranked the best crypto exchanges for traders in Indonesia. We started with exchanges that accept users in Indonesia and then judged each one on the whole package. The order is our editorial judgment of that package, while the CWR Score on each card rates the exchange on its own, which is why some exchanges lower down have a higher score.

  • Regulation and licensing
  • Rupiah funding and ways to cash out
  • Spot and futures trading fees
  • Coins and products you can trade
  • Security record and proof of reserves

Buying, holding and trading crypto is legal in Indonesia, where it counts as a digital financial asset under the 2023 financial sector law (Law 4 of 2023). Since 10 January 2025 the Financial Services Authority (OJK) has regulated and supervised crypto trading, taking over from Bappebti, the commodity futures regulator. Crypto can’t be used as money, because the Currency Law requires the rupiah for payments made in Indonesia.

Crypto offered and traded to the public must meet OJK’s rules, and Indonesian exchanges operate as digital financial asset traders (Pedagang Aset Keuangan Digital) licensed by OJK.

How is crypto taxed in Indonesia?

In Indonesia, crypto sales are taxed on the value of each sale, not on your profit. When you sell crypto for rupiah or swap it for another coin on an OJK-licensed Indonesian exchange, the exchange withholds a final income tax of 0.21% of the transaction value. On a foreign platform the rate is 1%, collected by the platform if the tax office has appointed it as a collector; otherwise you pay it yourself and report it in the monthly unified income tax return (SPT Masa PPh Unifikasi). Because the tax is final and based on the transaction value, it applies even when you sell at a loss.

Since 1 August 2025, buying and selling crypto carries no VAT because crypto is treated like securities, but VAT applies to exchange services and to mining. Mining income is taxed at normal income tax rates from the 2026 tax year and must be declared in the miner’s annual return. These rules come from Finance Minister Regulation (PMK) 50 of 2025, which replaced PMK 68 of 2022.

This is a general overview, not tax advice. Tax rules change and depend on your situation, so check with the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) or a tax adviser before you file.

Official sources, checked September 2026: Ministry of Finance JDIH: PMK 50 of 2025 on VAT and income tax on crypto trading; Directorate General of Taxes: press release on crypto tax rules (31 July 2025); Directorate General of Taxes: PMK 50 of 2025 regulation page.

How to buy crypto in Indonesia

Getting your first Bitcoin or Ethereum in Indonesia takes only a few steps once you know which exchange you want to use.

  1. Choose an exchange. Pick one that accepts customers in Indonesia. Local exchanges must be licensed by OJK as digital financial asset traders (Pedagang Aset Keuangan Digital).
  2. Open and verify your account. Sign up with your email or phone number, then upload your ID and take a selfie. Every exchange in this ranking requires ID verification.
  3. Deposit rupiah. In Indonesia you usually pay in rupiah by bank transfer, including through Bank Indonesia’s 24/7 BI-FAST system, or from an e-money wallet. Bitget, Binance, Bybit, OKX and MEXC also run P2P markets where you can buy directly from other users.
  4. Buy on the spot market. Choose Bitcoin, Ethereum or another coin such as Solana or XRP. Use a limit order if you want to set your price.
  5. Protect and record. Turn on two-factor authentication and move long-term holdings to your own wallet. Keep a record of every trade for tax.

Bottom line

Bitget gives Indonesian traders the most learning tools and a huge coin list, but wait for its withdrawals to reopen before you deposit. Binance and Bybit are the strongest all-round alternatives, with deep markets, P2P funding and low futures fees. OKX suits hands-on derivatives traders. MEXC is the cheapest but carries real risk of frozen funds, and Kraken and Coinbase are simple but costly for spot buying. Crypto is legal to buy and trade in Indonesia under OJK supervision, so whichever exchange you choose, check how you will get rupiah in and out before you commit.

Questions

Frequently asked

Yes. Buying, holding and trading crypto is legal in Indonesia, where it counts as a digital financial asset. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) regulates and supervises crypto trading, and Indonesian exchanges must be licensed by OJK as digital financial asset traders. You can't use crypto to pay for things, though, because payments in Indonesia must be made in rupiah.

MEXC charges the least. Spot makers pay nothing and takers pay 0.05%, while futures cost 0.01% for makers and 0.04% for takers. Many customers have reported having their funds withheld, though, so weigh the savings against that risk.

In Indonesia you usually pay in rupiah by bank transfer, including through Bank Indonesia's 24/7 BI-FAST system, or from an e-money wallet. Bitget, Binance, Bybit, OKX and MEXC also run P2P markets where you can buy crypto directly from other users with local payment methods.

In September 2026, Bitget reported unauthorized transfers of about $351.6 million from some of its hot and warm wallets. It says cold wallets and user balances remain secure and that its User Protection Fund covers the loss. Withdrawals are suspended during the investigation, so any money you deposit can't leave the exchange until they reopen.

Crypto gains can be taxable in Indonesia. See "How is crypto taxed in Indonesia?" above for details, and keep a record of every trade you make.

Coinbase has the simplest app for a first purchase, but its spot fees are high. Bitget suits beginners who want to learn, with copy trading and a demo account, and Bybit and Kraken both have interfaces that are easy for newcomers to use.
