Belgium column is checked live against each exchange's restricted-country list.
Kraken is our top pick for traders in Belgium who want one MiCA-licensed account that handles euro deposits, a large coin list and futures. Beyond that, three things matter most in Belgium: whether an exchange holds a MiCA licence, how easily you can move euros in and out, and what each trade costs.
A MiCA licence means an EU regulator supervises the company holding your money and MiCA’s investor protections apply to you. A licence issued in any EU country lets an exchange serve customers in Belgium. Every exchange here except Bitunix holds one, most accept SEPA transfers, and Bitvavo also takes Bancontact.
Kraken holds a MiCA licence through Payward Europe Solutions Limited, supervised by the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI), and that licence covers Belgium. You can pay in euros by SEPA, bank transfer, card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay and cash out by SEPA, bank transfer or PayPal, so getting money back to your Belgian bank is straightforward.
From Belgium you can trade 679 coins on spot and 177 futures markets, with futures offered through a CySEC-licensed company at up to 10x leverage. Futures cost 0.02% for makers and 0.05% for takers. USDT and several other stablecoins can't be traded under MiCA, so you'll trade against the euro or another supported stablecoin.
ID verification is required, and spot trades in Belgium cost 0.4% for makers and 0.8% for takers. Kraken launched in 2011 and is based in San Francisco, USA; it was co-founded by Jesse Powell and is run by CEO David Ripley. The main catch is those spot fees, which sit above most exchanges in this ranking, so frequent small trades lose a bigger slice to costs.
Key points
Paying in from a Belgian account is easiest on Bitvavo, because it accepts Bancontact alongside SEPA, iDEAL, card, PayPal, Apple Pay and EPS. SEPA and iDEAL deposits are free while card and PayPal cost around 1% or more, and withdrawals go out by SEPA, so you can sell and send euros straight to your bank.
Its MiCA licence comes from the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) through Bitvavo B.V. and is passported to Belgium. You can trade 427 coins, mostly against the euro, but there are no futures or margin. Bitvavo Earn offers staking and lending, though both sit outside the MiCA licence, so they don't carry its protections.
Adding liquidity on spot costs 0.15% and removing it costs 0.25%, KYC is mandatory, and Bitvavo publishes proof of reserves. It was founded in 2018 in Amsterdam and is led by co-founder and CEO Mark Nuvelstijn. The catch is a daily withdrawal limit of €25,000 at basic verification, so moving a large sum out can take several days.
Key points
If you want spot and futures both under EU rules, OKX's European service, run by OKX Europe Limited, holds a MiCA licence from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA). Its futures come through OKX Europe Markets under MiFID II, so the derivatives side is regulated in the EU too.
Futures are five-year X-Perps with up to 10x leverage, a maker fee of 0.02% and a taker fee of 0.05%, while spot covers 290 coins with USDT excluded under MiCA. You can fund the account with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, iDEAL or a SEPA or regular bank transfer, but euro withdrawals go out only via SEPA.
Makers pay 0.1% and takers 0.2% on spot trades, and you have to verify your ID. The OKX group was founded by Star Xu; its European service launched in 2018 with its base in Sliema, Malta, and Erald Ghoos leads it as CEO. The main risk is the leverage itself, because a small price move against a leveraged position can wipe out your margin.
Key points
Coinbase pairs a MiCA licence with futures for EU customers, both under EU supervision. The licence is held by Coinbase Luxembourg S.A. and supervised by Luxembourg's Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), and futures run through a CySEC-licensed company at up to 10x leverage across 131 markets.
You can deposit euros by SEPA, card or PayPal and withdraw by SEPA, bank transfer or SWIFT, so cashing out to a Belgian account is simple. There are 402 spot coins, but no USDT or other non-MiCA stablecoins and no USDC rewards, which matters if you planned to earn on stablecoins.
In Belgium, a spot trade costs 0.25% as a maker or 0.5% as a taker, while futures carry a flat 0.05% whichever side you're on, and KYC is required. Coinbase was founded in 2012 and works remote-first under co-founder and CEO Brian Armstrong. Its main risk is account security: in 2021 more than 6,000 customers had their accounts compromised, so switch on two-factor authentication and address whitelisting from day one.
Key points
Crypto, stocks, ETFs and metals share one euro account on Bitpanda: next to 575 coins it lists 7,758 stock tokens, 2,638 ETFs and 149 commodities. Its MiCA licence comes from the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) through Bitpanda GmbH and covers Belgium.
Deposits work through Skrill, Neteller, Klarna, iDEAL, cards and SEPA or other bank transfers, and euros come back out to your bank account. There are no futures, but margin trading goes up to 10x, and Bitpanda Fusion offers order-book trading with volume-based fees starting at 0.25%.
Standard buys and sells cost 1.49% for makers and takers, far above most exchanges here, and KYC is required before you deposit. Bitpanda launched in 2014 in Vienna, was co-founded by Christian Trummer and has Eric Demuth at the helm as CEO. It doesn't publish proof of reserves, so you can't independently check that customer holdings are fully backed.
Key points
Perpetual futures under EU rules are part of Bitstamp's offer in Belgium, through a Slovenian MiFID company, alongside a MiCA licence held by Bitstamp Europe S.A. and supervised by Luxembourg's CSSF. That gives you 118 spot coins and 20 futures markets at up to 10x leverage.
SEPA deposits are free while SEPA withdrawals cost €3, and cards, PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay work in both directions too. USDT, DAI, PYUSD and WBTC can't be traded under MiCA, so plan on euro pairs or other supported stablecoins.
Bitstamp charges 0.3% on spot orders that add liquidity and 0.4% on orders that take it, and you must pass KYC. Co-founded by Nejc Kodrič in 2011, Bitstamp has its headquarters in Luxembourg, is led by CEO Jean-Baptiste Graftieau and has been owned by Robinhood since June 2025. Proof of reserves isn't published, and in 2015 about 19,000 BTC were stolen from its hot wallet in a phishing attack, so you have no way to confirm independently that holdings are fully backed.
Key points
Spain's Comision Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV) supervises Bit2Me, which holds its MiCA licence through Bitcoinforme S.L. and has it passported to Belgium. From Belgium you can trade 192 coins on spot.
There are no futures, so it fits buying and holding or simple spot trading rather than leveraged trades. Bit2Me has its own B2M token and a debit card for spending, and it keeps assets in cold storage.
ID verification is required before you can trade. Bit2Me was founded in 2014 in Elche, Spain by Leif Ferreira and Andrei Manuel and is run by co-CEOs Leif Ferreira and Koh Onozawa Martinez. There's no proof of reserves either, which leaves you unable to check that customer deposits are fully backed.
Key points
Low fees are Bitunix's draw: spot costs 0.08% when your order rests on the book and 0.1% when it fills instantly, while futures run 0.02% and 0.06% on the same basis. It holds no MiCA licence, though, so for you in Belgium no EU regulator supervises the company holding your money and MiCA's investor protections don't apply.
You get 546 spot coins, 520 futures coins with up to 200x leverage, and copy trading. You can top up with a card, Apple Pay, PayPal, Google Pay or a bank transfer, SEPA included, but withdrawals are crypto only, so you'd need another exchange to turn coins back into euros.
KYC is optional, and Bitunix publishes proof of reserves. Founder and CEO Arron Lee set it up in 2021, and it operates from the Seychelles. The main risk combines the missing licence with very high leverage: there's no EU authority to turn to if something goes wrong, and a small price move can wipe out a leveraged position.

Our editorial team selected, tested and ranked the best crypto exchanges for traders in Belgium. We picked exchanges that accept users in Belgium and ordered them on the whole package. The order is our editors’ judgment of that package, while the CWR Score on each card rates the exchange on its own, which is why some exchanges placed lower have a higher score.
Yes, buying, holding and trading crypto is legal in Belgium. The FSMA (Financial Services and Markets Authority) is Belgium’s authority under MiCA. Before MiCA, crypto firms registered with the FSMA, and that registration has been replaced by MiCA licensing, so an exchange licensed under MiCA in any EU country can serve customers in Belgium. Exchanges without a MiCA licence are not supervised by an EU regulator.
Since 1 January 2026, Belgium taxes gains on crypto held as a normal private investment at 10%, including gains from swapping one crypto for another. Before 2026 these gains were not taxed, and the value on 31 December 2025 counts as the starting point. The first €10,000 of gains per person each year is exempt, and losses can be set against gains on other investments, such as shares, in the same year.
If the tax office shows that your trading was speculative rather than normal management of your savings, the gains are taxed at 33% plus local surcharges instead. No tax is withheld on crypto, so you declare the gains yourself in your annual income tax return. Under the EU’s DAC8 rules, crypto providers record their customers’ transactions from 2026 and report them to tax authorities, with the first reports due in 2027.
This is a general overview, not tax advice. Tax rules change and depend on your situation, so check with the Federal Public Service Finance (FOD Financiën / SPF Finances) or a tax adviser before you file.
Official sources, checked September 2026: FPS Finance: tax on capital gains on financial assets; FPS Finance: circular 2026/C/74 on the capital gains tax (July 2026); European Commission: DAC8 crypto-asset reporting.
Buying Bitcoin, Ethereum or other cryptocurrencies in Belgium takes only a few steps once you’ve settled on an exchange.
Kraken is the most complete choice for Belgium: MiCA-licensed, easy euro transfers, a large coin list and futures, with spot fees as the main drawback. Bitvavo is the easiest to fund thanks to Bancontact and has low spot fees, OKX EU and Coinbase add futures under EU supervision, and Bitpanda suits people who want stocks and ETFs next to crypto. Bitunix has the lowest fees, but without a MiCA licence no EU regulator oversees your money there.
Yes. Buying, holding and trading crypto is legal in Belgium. The FSMA (Financial Services and Markets Authority) is Belgium's authority under MiCA, and any exchange with a MiCA licence from an EU country can serve you in Belgium.
Kraken is our top pick. It holds a MiCA licence from the Central Bank of Ireland, takes euros by SEPA in both directions, and offers a large coin list plus futures, though its spot fees are high.
Yes, Bitvavo accepts Bancontact deposits, along with SEPA, iDEAL, card, PayPal and Apple Pay. SEPA and iDEAL deposits are free on Bitvavo.
Yes. Kraken, OKX EU, Coinbase and Bitstamp offer futures to EU customers through EU-licensed companies, with leverage capped lower than on their global platforms. Bitvavo, Bitpanda and Bit2Me don't offer futures.
USDT is not allowed under MiCA, so MiCA-licensed exchanges such as Kraken, OKX EU, Coinbase and Bitstamp don't let you trade it. You trade against the euro or another supported stablecoin instead.
No. Bitunix holds no MiCA licence, so no EU regulator supervises it and MiCA's investor protections don't apply. It also only allows crypto withdrawals, so you can't send euros back to your bank from it.
