Your true cost basis across buys.

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Amount entered in: choose dollars if you know what you spent on each buy, or units if you know how many coins you bought.
  2. Your buys: enter the price and the amount of each buy. Add a row for every further buy.
  3. Current price: used to value the position and show the unrealised profit or loss.
  4. Target average price: optional. The calculator works out how much more you would have to buy at the current price to bring your average down to this price. Leave it at 0 to switch it off.
  5. Fee per side: the trading fee charged on each buy and on the sell.

How the Average Entry Is Calculated

The average entry price equals the total cost of all buys divided by the total number of units bought. It is weighted by size, not by the number of buys.

For example, $1,000 spent at $50,000 buys 0.02 BTC, and $1,000 spent at $40,000 buys 0.025 BTC. Together that is 0.045 BTC for $2,000, an average entry of $44,444. It is below the midpoint of $45,000 because the same amount of money buys more units at the lower price.

To bring that average down to $42,000 while the price is $40,000, you would have to buy another 0.055 BTC, about $2,200.

How to Read the Result

  • Unrealised P&L: the value now minus what you paid, with entry fees deducted. It only becomes real when you sell.
  • Break-even price: the price you need to sell at to come out level. It is above the average entry, because fees are charged on the buys and again on the sell.
  • Move to break even: how far the price has to rise from here. A position that is down 50% needs a 100% rise to get back.
  • Weight: the table shows how much each buy counts toward the average. One large buy at a high price outweighs several small buys lower down.

What the Estimate Leaves Out

The calculator covers buys only. Partial sells, funding payments on futures positions and taxes are not included, and the fee is treated as the same percentage on every trade. A target average at or below the current price cannot be reached, because buying at a price never pulls the average below that price.

If the position is leveraged, check it with the liquidation price calculator before adding to it.
