Our verdict
We like Gate for its impressive breadth of trading options, from spot and margin to futures, options, and a growing Web3 ecosystem that puts it well ahead of bare-bones competitors. The passive income tools, copy trading, and crypto Visa card add genuine everyday utility that many exchanges simply do not offer.

Gate Overview
Exchanges play a key role in cryptocurrency adoption by offering a range of products and services that allow users to engage with digital assets and benefit from this evolving financial sector. Gate has been providing such services since around 2013 and is a familiar name to many. Still, whether it’s the right exchange for you depends on how well its offerings, customer support, and fee structure match your needs and expectations. This Gate review outlines everything you need to know about Gate to help you make an informed decision.
Gate is one of the oldest cryptocurrency trading platforms still in operation, established in 2013 by Lin Han. Originally launched as Bter.com, it was rebranded to Gate.io in 2017 following changes in China’s regulations around ICOs and digital assets. In May 2025, Gate.io rebranded again to Gate.com as part of a wider effort to unify its global brand and move beyond a traditional crypto exchange model. Today, the platform positions itself as a next-generation Web3 and digital asset ecosystem with trading, finance, blockchain, and community-focused products.

Today, Gate supports over 2,052+ cryptocurrencies and serves more than 12 million users worldwide. The platform caters to both beginner and experienced traders with features like spot and futures trading, margin trading, and automated trading bots. It also offers various financial products aimed at generating passive income, such as savings plans, staking, cloud mining, and copy trading.
Beyond trading, Gate provides additional services including a crypto Visa card (“Gate Card”) that allows users to spend their digital assets directly. It also features a dedicated Web3 Gateway, where users can connect their Gate Web3 Wallet to explore and interact with decentralized applications (dApps), expanding the platform’s utility beyond centralized trading.

Gate KYC and Sign-up
Gate requires all users to complete KYC verification before making any withdrawals. Without KYC, users cannot withdraw funds from the platform under any circumstances.
Once KYC Level 1 is completed, users are allowed to withdraw up to $2 million USD per day. This verification process helps Gate meet global compliance standards and protect user accounts against fraud and misuse. It’s also required to access several advanced features, including higher withdrawal limits, fiat deposits, and some financial products.
Gate gives users the option to delete their accounts at any time. When you choose to delete your Gate account, all personal data, including KYC details, are permanently removed from the system; useful if you decide to stop using the exchange and want to ensure your data is no longer stored.
Below are the steps to complete your KYC on Gate:
Step 1: Visit the Gate website using your browser or download the Gate app on your mobile device.
Step 2: Click on the “Sign Up” button to create a new account.

Step 3: Enter your email address and set a secure password.

Step 4: You will receive a code by email to verify your address. Enter the code to confirm your registration.
Step 5: After signing up, click “Verify Now” when prompted to begin the identity verification process.

Step 6: You will be redirected to your Gate account page. Click “Verify Now” again to start the KYC procedure.

Step 7: For KYC Level 1, you will need to submit the following:
- A valid government-issued photo ID (such as a passport, national ID card, or driving license)
- A biometric photo (selfie)
- Your phone number

Step 8: Once Level 1 verification is approved, you can withdraw up to $2 million per day. To raise your limit to $8 million, complete KYC Level 2 by providing a Proof of Address document (such as a utility bill or bank statement).
Gate Products and Services
Trading features alone are no longer the deciding factor for users when choosing a crypto exchange. Today’s users look beyond trading, they expect options for passive income, SocialFi tools, Web3 experiences, and more. Gate addresses these expectations by offering a wide range of products and services. Let’s take a closer look at what Gate provides beyond just spot and futures trading.
Gate Trading
Gate offers a feature-rich trading interface equipped with advanced tools and multiple order types, catering to both beginner and experienced traders. Beyond regular spot trading, the platform allows users to explore European-style options and Delivery Futures, where positions can be taken in weekly or quarterly contracts.

For early access to unreleased tokens, Gate provides a Pre-Market feature, enabling users to trade assets before their official launch or distribution. Additionally, users can explore more high-risk, high-reward instruments such as Leveraged Tokens and the Pilot Trading platform, both designed to capitalize on market volatility while offering the potential for greater returns.

Gate AI
One of the newer additions to Gate is Gate AI, an integrated assistant designed to help you navigate different parts of the platform more efficiently. You can use it to research cryptocurrencies, analyze market trends, track prices, manage your portfolio, and get help setting up trading bots. It can also assist with Gate-specific products such as P2P trading, Launchpool, and staking.

Gate AI also has a paid version for users who need more advanced support. With it, you can create and edit files such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs with proper formatting, charts, and tables. It can also run code in a secure sandbox, which may be useful for data analysis, backtesting, or automation scripts. On top of that, its deep research mode can search multiple sources, organize findings, and turn them into detailed reports.
For example, you could ask Gate AI to show BTC’s liquidation heatmap for the last 24 hours and export the data into an Excel file. That kind of task is useful because it combines exchange data, analysis, and file creation in one place.
Gate Earn
Gate provides a wide range of earning products tailored to different risk appetites, from low-risk savings options to high-yield investment tools. Whether you’re looking to earn passive income through simple staking or interested in more advanced strategies like structured products and dual investments, the platform has something for everyone. Users can also benefit from exclusive token airdrops, early project access, and automated investment features.

Mobile App
The mobile app is an essential tool for crypto users, and Gate ensures a smooth, reliable experience across devices. Users can trade, stake, and manage their portfolios directly from the app, with access to nearly all the features found on the desktop platform. It includes real-time price tracking, detailed charting tools, order management, and quick customer support access, making it a practical choice for staying connected to the market anytime, anywhere.

Bot Trading
Like many major exchanges, Gate provides a variety of pre-trained trading bots designed to automate your strategies. These include standard options like Grid Trading Bots, Futures Grid Bots, Inter-Exchange Arbitrage Bots, and more. For users seeking more refined strategies, Gate also offers CTA Expert modes; advanced, modified versions of standard bots that are trained to deliver more optimized and adaptive performance across different market conditions.

Copy Trading
Gate offers a copy trading feature that allows users to replicate the strategies of experienced traders in real time. This is especially useful for beginners or those who want to participate in the market without actively managing trades. Users can browse through a list of top-performing traders, view their performance history, and choose to follow them with just a few clicks.

For new traders, copy trading can be a practical way to earn passive income. Gate provides detailed performance metrics, such as monthly returns, win rate, drawdown, and assets under management, so you can make informed decisions when selecting a trader to follow.
P2P Trading
Gate offers a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) trading platform that allows users to buy and sell cryptocurrencies directly with each other using local payment methods. This can be particularly helpful in regions with limited access to traditional banking or crypto services.

That said, the P2P market on Gate may not be as active as larger platforms, which can lead to fewer trade options. As with all P2P platforms, users should exercise caution and trade only with verified or trusted counterparts to avoid potential fraud.
Explore our Gate P2P trading guide to learn how to buy and sell crypto directly with local payment methods in a safe and simple way.
Gate Wallet and Web3 Gateway
Gate extends its ecosystem with the Gate Wallet, a self-custody wallet designed for secure asset storage and seamless interaction with Web3 services. Through the Gate Wallet, users can connect to a wide range of dApps, explore DeFi protocols, and manage their on-chain assets across multiple blockchains, all without leaving the Gate environment. This Web3 Gateway ensures that users have direct control over their private keys while still benefiting from Gate’s integrated infrastructure.

Gate NFT
Gate provides an NFT platform called Gate NFT, where users can mint, buy, and sell digital collectibles. Minting is free, which lowers the entry barrier for creators. Royalties are distributed automatically after each resale, allowing creators to receive earnings without delays. The platform hosts a variety of NFTs, including works from well-known artists, game developers, and select partners. It also features occasional NFT drops and INOs (Initial NFT Offerings), giving users early access to new collections.

Gate Card
Gate offers a crypto card that provides cashback and supports top-ups with over 2,000 cryptocurrencies. The card comes with no application or annual fees. Users can earn 1% basic cashback, with a 2% cashback offer for new users. For travel-related purchases, such as hotels and flights, the card provides up to 7% cashback. Cashback can be received in USDT, BTC, ETH, or GT. There is no fee for ATM withdrawals up to €200 per month within the EEA.

Gate Shop
Gate Shop offers users a platform to purchase a variety of crypto and blockchain-related products, as well as Gate merchandise. It’s a convenient place for those interested in adding to their collection of crypto-themed items or exploring products linked to the blockchain space.

Gate offers futures practice on its Testnet using virtual BTC or USDT rather than a real deposit. Demo balances cannot be moved to the live spot account. Claim limits and waiting periods are displayed by the testnet; do not assume a daily automatic refill. Official demo details.

Gate.io Trading Platform
The core of any centralized exchange lies in its trading platform, user interface, and the tools it offers to support buying and selling. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at Gate’s trading interface and the features it provides for both new and experienced users.
Spot Trading
Gate’s spot trading platform is designed for a wide range of users, from beginners to advanced traders. It supports over 2,052+ cryptocurrencies, with most trading pairs available against USDT and USDC, offering deep liquidity across the board. The platform processes a daily Spot trading volume of $773,866,426, reflecting its strong user activity and market presence.
The interface is powered by TradingView, giving users access to professional-grade charts, technical indicators, and drawing tools. Gate also provides a live order book, recent trade history, and real-time market data to help users make informed decisions. Beyond basic market and limit orders, it offers advanced order types such as conditional, TWAP, iceberg, scaled, and chase limit orders. Users looking for leverage can access margin trading with up to 5x leverage on isolated margin positions across supported pairs.

These tools allow for more precise trade execution and strategy customization. Spot trading fees are set at 0.1% maker / 0.1% taker, with account-specific VIP pricing and optional GT fee deduction. The GT section below explains the distinction.
Futures Trading
Gate’s futures trading platform offers a powerful suite of tools for users who prefer leveraged trading. It supports over 1,023 contracts, including USDT- and BTC-margined pairs, with leverage of up to 200x available on selected contracts. The interface shares many features with the spot platform, including TradingView charts, real-time order books, and advanced order types like conditional, TWAP, iceberg, and scaled orders.
The platform handles a daily futures trading volume of $3,436,431,992, reflecting its high liquidity and active user base. In addition to standard perpetual futures, Gate also offers delivery futures, allowing traders to open positions in weekly or quarterly contracts that settle on specific dates.

For those interested in derivatives, Gate supports European-style vanilla options, giving users the ability to trade calls and puts with fixed expiry dates. Futures trading fees are 0.02% for makers and 0.05% for takers, with the applicable rate determined by the product and account tier; the spot GT deduction rate should not be assumed to apply to futures.
Maximum leverage is 200× (spot margin up to 5×).
Gate.io Trading Fees
Trading Fees
Gate follows a tiered fee structure across its trading services. For spot trading, the standard maker and taker fees are both set at 0.1% maker / 0.1% taker. On the futures market, maker fees start at 0.02%, while taker fees are 0.05%. Using GT for eligible fee deduction is separate from holding GT or qualifying for a VIP tier. Gate’s April 2026 schedule lists VIP 0 spot fees of 0.10%, or 0.09% with GT deduction. Enable the feature and check your account’s current rate; see the GT token section for conditions and sources.
Deposits and Withdrawals
Gate follows a zero-fee policy for deposits, so users can fund their accounts without any platform charges. However, withdrawals incur a fee, which varies based on the cryptocurrency and the network selected for the transaction. For example, withdrawing USDT (Tether) through the Ethereum network will cost around $1.12, while using the Solana network reduces the fee to approximately $0.50. Since these fees depend on real-time network conditions, it’s best to check the latest fee before proceeding with a withdrawal.
| Trading type | Maker fee | Taker fee | CEX median (64 tracked) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spot | 0.1% | 0.1% | 0.1% / 0.1% | Average |
| Futures | 0.02% | 0.05% | 0.02% / 0.06% | Average |
| Options | 0.02% | 0.028% | — | — |
The median across the 64 centralized exchanges (CEX) we track, per fee type. Gate is only ever compared with its own kind. "Average" means within half a basis point of that median.
GateToken (GT)
GateToken (GT) is Gate’s exchange utility token and the native asset of GateChain. It connects account benefits, such as eligible fee reductions and token rewards, with blockchain uses such as gas payments. Holding GT creates exposure to the token’s price as well as to Gate’s ecosystem; a trading discount does not protect the value of the holding.
GT information and official sources checked September 9, 2026.
GT fees, rewards and blockchain use
- Fee deduction: Gate’s April 2026 fee update lists VIP 0 spot maker and taker fees of 0.10%, or 0.09% with GT fee deduction. That is a 10% reduction in the fee, not a 10-percentage-point reduction. The account must use the GT deduction feature; simply owning GT in an unrelated wallet does not apply it. Gate documents an explicit deduction setting. Higher VIP tiers and different products have their own rates, so check the current account fee schedule and available GT balance before trading.
- Launch rewards: Gate now lists HODLer Airdrops for GT holders and Launchpool staking campaigns. These are separate products. A holding-based airdrop is not the same as committing tokens to a staking pool. Read the individual campaign’s supported assets, balance snapshots, identity and regional requirements, subscription steps and reward period. An old Startup threshold or an expired campaign does not establish eligibility for a new event.
- Gas and staking: GT is also used within Gate’s blockchain ecosystem. The Gate Layer launch announcement identifies GT as its gas token and explains that Gate Layer uses GateChain for settlement. GateChain staking and exchange-hosted earning products have different custody, withdrawal and reward rules; neither offers a guaranteed return.
GT supply, burns and buying
Gate’s July 6, 2026 report for Q2 2026 records a burn of 2,570,063.3829548 GT, bringing cumulative burns to 189,947,219 GT, or about 63.32% of the report’s original 300-million-token base. These are dated burn figures, not today’s circulating supply. Gate publishes the transaction for inspection. Burns reduce supply, but their size and any effect on market price depend on other factors, including demand and selling activity.
For readers who want actual GT rather than a derivatives position, the practical route is the GT/USDT spot market:
- Check that Gate and the relevant services are available to your account and complete the required verification.
- Fund the account, open spot trading and select GT/USDT. A GT perpetual contract does not supply spendable GT.
- Choose a market or limit order, enter the amount and review the price, trading fee and expected execution. A limit order may remain unfilled; a market order may incur slippage.
- After execution, check the GT balance and the separate settings for any benefit you intend to use.
For withdrawals, match the destination wallet and network carefully. Gate’s GT information page distinguishes Ethereum GT, GateChain native and EVM forms, and GT on Gate Layer. A shared ticker does not make every address or network interchangeable. Exchange custody, bridges and staking contracts introduce different risks; compare those costs and restrictions with the benefit you expect to receive.

Gate Security
Gate has implemented various security measures to protect user accounts, including two-factor authentication (2FA), Google Authenticator integration, anti-phishing codes, fund passwords, whitelisted addresses, authorized device management, and SMS verification. These features aim to enhance account security and safeguard user assets.

In 2018, Gate was targeted in a supply-chain attack through the compromise of the StatCounter web analytics service. Attackers injected malicious code into StatCounter’s script, which was used by Gate, to hijack Bitcoin transactions by replacing withdrawal addresses with those controlled by the attackers.
Gate promptly removed the affected service upon discovery and reported that user funds remained secure. Additionally, in October 2022, Gate.io’s official Twitter account was compromised and used to promote a phishing scam involving a fake $500,000 USDT giveaway. The exchange responded by securing the account and compensating affected users for any losses incurred due to the breach.
Gate has also taken steps to enhance transparency by providing Proof of Reserves, verified through third-party audits, to demonstrate that it holds sufficient assets to cover user balances. While these measures contribute to the platform’s security framework, users are encouraged to remain vigilant and employ best practices to protect their accounts.

Gate Customer Support
Gate offers several support options, including a 24/7 live chat feature, an in-app support section, and email assistance for more detailed queries. Users can also access a comprehensive help center filled with articles, tutorials, and FAQs that cover topics from account setup to troubleshooting common issues.

While these resources are intended to help users resolve problems independently, some users have reported delays and occasional difficulty in getting timely resolutions from the support team. Nonetheless, the variety of available channels does provide users with multiple ways to seek help when needed.

Bottom Line
Gate is a feature-rich exchange offering spot, futures, margin, and copy trading, alongside passive income tools, token launches, and access to lesser-known cryptocurrencies. It also supports NFT minting, Web3 services, and a crypto card for spending. While it checks many boxes in terms of functionality, its fee structure isn’t the most competitive compared to alternatives, so compare your actual account rate, trading volume and any enabled GT deduction with the alternatives.
That said, the interface can feel overwhelming for beginners due to the sheer number of tools and options available. While it may take time to fully understand everything Gate offers, users who are willing to explore the platform can find it a capable and flexible exchange for their trading and investment needs.
